The Federation
As the official voice and French tanning industry authority, the Federation of French Tanners represents tanners, and for historic reasons, certain dealers and brokers in France.
The Federation now represents 50 businesses (1), (99.95% of the industrial sector), bringing together a workforce of 1,750 (2) with an annual turnover of €450 million (3), including 30% from exports (4).

A century-long commitment of defending and promoting French tanners
The Federation of French Tanners was founded in 1885 under the name The Union of Hides and Leather of France, bringing together regional and specialized trade unions.
In 1969, it took its current name, merging three previously separate organizations: the French Tanners Unions of both small and big skins, and the French Union of Leather Belts, Girths, Straps and Industrial Leather Manufacturers.
In 2011, French tanners came together to forge a single, authoritative body: The Federation of French Tanners.
For over a century now, our institution has been the industry’s ambassador, tirelessly representing, defending, and promoting French tanners every step of the way and where it matters most: to local government authorities, throughout Europe and the rest of the world.
